Rebecca Lenihan
Historian of 19th and 20th century Scotland and New Zealand

Picture
Born and raised in New Zealand, I completed my undergraduate degree (majoring in English Literature and History), honours year (History), and PhD (History/New Zealand Studies) at Victoria University of Wellington.

In September 2013 I completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the Historical Data Unit at the University of Guelph, in Ontario, collaborating with the Centre for Scottish Studies there, and lecturing in the UoG Department of History.

At present I am a post-doctoral fellow in the History Department at Victoria University of Wellington, working on a Royal Marsden funded project with Professor Charlotte Macdonald investigating garrison culture among the imperial troops stationed in New Zealand in the 1860s.

My primary research interests lie in 19th and 20th century Scotland and New Zealand and I am a co-author of Unpacking the Kists (McGill-Queens University Press, 2013) and author of From Alba to Aotearoa (Otago University Press, 2015).

I am a member of the Professional Historians’ Association of New Zealand/Aotearoa (PHANZA) and New Zealand Historical Association (NZHA) and always happy to be contacted with questions, ideas for collaboration, book review or peer-review requests, regarding short- and long-term research and writing contracts or guest lectures.
